ARTHRITIS FACTS
Do you know the facts about Arthritis?
- Arthritis is the nation's leading cause of disability.
- 46 million Americans (1 in 5) and 300,000 children have one of the more than 100 types of arthritis. Over 4 million Canadians have a form of arthritis.
- Arthritis affects 2 times more women than men.
- Costs to the U.S. economy totals more than $86.2 billion annually.
- THERE IS NO CURE.

AOII IS MAKING A DIFFERENCE!
Since 1967 over 2 million dollars has been raised by AOIIs and donated through the Foundation to support the mission of conquering arthritis once and for all!
AOII Foundation awarded $304,500, the most EVER awarded, this year through your help!!!
Arthritis research grants:
- A total of $250,000 has been awarded for two research projects for 2011-2012.
- A total of $54,500 for family scholarships and children's activities were awarded at the national Juvenile Arthritis Conference. Pandas were also donated through the Panda Project for children.
Arthritis Walk
Effective immediately, all donations for Arthritis Walks and Jingle Bell Runs can be submitted directly to the Arthritis Foundation website or to the local Arthritis Foundation chapter. Donations no longer have to be sent through the AOII Foundation.
In order to make the new process successful, please make sure that you sign up under Team AOII National when registering and include AOII and your chapter in your team name (ex. AOII Alpha Chapter or AOII Nashville Alumnae Chapter). To register, visit the Arthritis Walk website at www.letsmovetogether.org.
To ensure that your chapter receives recognition at Convention and Leadership Institute, we have created an Arthritis Walk & Jingle Bell Run Event Reporting Form. Please fill out the form with the amount of your chapter's total donation to the walk/run and mail it to the AOII Foundation office by May 11, 2012. You should report your participation in Jingle Bell Run or Arthritis Walk from July 1, 2011 through May 11, 2012.
